The weekend saw the Arsenal win 2-1 win at Ewood Park. It was hardly a cruise but the lads worked and earned their due. Theo Walcott's early goal was brilliantly set up, and so powerful, it apparently broke the net.
The lead however, was quickly canceled out by Diouf. I thought we came back after the restart looking miles better than our hosts. Then Andriy Arshavin put our winner passed Robinson. I give plenty of praise to Blackburn - and really, this isn't typical of me because I really dislike the tactics of Sam Allardyce - they played a very good game against us.
I could go on and talk about the match, and highlights, and perhaps even how Pedersen managed to annoy us all with his silly towel antics by the sidelines, but I was a little more concerned about the reactions of Arsenal fans around me.
Firstly, there is the animosity towards Cesc Fabregas. Yes, the man is the love of my life, but no, I will not defend my man's poor performance. I will however, say that the accusations of him having lost his faith and dedication to the team, is a tad unfair.
Obviously, the summer fiasco is still clear in all our minds and Cesc's lack of resistance towards leaving the club certainly upset some. However, I think the man who has done so much for the club has a little more pride and honour - as a player and as an individual.
Think about how incredible Cesc has been for us through the years. Playing without heart really isn't his style. I say cut Captain Fab some slack because really, he has come back from an exhausting World Cup and he hasn't been involved in the last couple of games. Let's not forget that he did thread a few brilliant balls through in the first half. As usual though, those are easy to miss when you focus on the negatives.
Yes, I love the man, but I don't think I am being unduly biased here. I do not put Cesc above the Arsenal and even if he does depart from North London for sunnier days in Barcelona, my heart is still with the club. So believe you me, if one day his half-hearted performance is blatantly obvious, I'll call him out on it. It will break my heart, but I will. However, this is not the time. Yet.
Instead of focusing on Fabregas' performance, I think we should be more awed by Theo's. The Wonderboy is starting the season with a bang! I don't believe any other Englishman has made quite this kind of impression in 2010/11 yet.
It makes me want to send reels of Theo's reign to all the critics who ever said that Arsenal was too "foreign". Four goals in two games. I hope the scoring streak keeps up. The team sure needs it now that Robin seems to be down. It helps too that Walcott's skills seem to have caught up with his ambitions on the field. His passing, positioning, and reading of the game have improved heaps and bounds.
The wins will keep the spirits of the lads up, which really is my point - attitude. I can't stand that the attitudes and spirit of some fans hit a wall so early in the season. This is the time we are allowed to be hopeful so why all the angst?
We are going to need plenty of spirit especially since we are now lined up to face Tottenham in the Carling Cup. To me, that's just a few too many encounters with them 'scums'. Spurs can embrace their last Carling Cup win against us and their first league win against us in more than a decade, but if they think they can repeat that performance, I say bring it on. This fan will wear the shirt proudly whatever the score.
Some clubs can throw money at problems and try to solve them. This does not always work of course - case in point, Man City's weekend stumble against Sunderland. After all, money can't buy class. As far as I'm concerned, Redknapp can go scout for more Arsenal discards.
I will not discount Tottenham's recent improvement in the game, but I think all that talk has gone to their players' heads. Just you wait, and one heavy fall will bring them ugly-whites down to earth again. So I cannot wait to take on whoever comes our way. I call out to you Arsenal fans to stand proudly behind our club because there should not be any fair weather followers amongst us. If we don't believe, who will?
The Arsenal!
